Garmin Express Issue With Windows 10. Sat, - 8:38pm. Uninstall Garmin Express, reboot, then download a fresh copy and reinstall it. But Win10 won't. Garmin Express won’t download ANYTHING; Garmin express won’t launch on pc, tried the reinstall, not working! Might be you have upgraded the Operating System of your PC, and now you cannot upload to Garmin connect via Express version. The same has happened for Other Garmin devices such as Edge 200, Edge 510, and forerunner 110.

Garmin Express Failed To Download
Any suggestions/help/advice/etc. will be appreciated. I have downloaded Garmin Express on 2 separate computers, a desktop and a laptop, all running versions of Windows 7. The computers are relatively high performance ones. The downloads and installation of the GE program were successful. When I connect my 2797 via the USB cable, the Garmin image and a connection image appear on the gps screen but when attempting to register the gps the program searches then a failure to recognize message appears. I click 'retry' and so it goes. This has happened on both computers numerous times. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the programs with the same results. The only response Garmin Support has sent me is that I probably hooked up the usb cord to the rear of the gps and not the connector under the bottom right side. We all know that they are 2 different style connectors and a single usb cord will not work in both gps ports.
Help would be appreciated.

- In the past this type of problem was normally caused by the fact that a user had not installed the Garmin Communicator Plugin on the PC prior to downloading and installing Garmin Express. Unless you recall specifically installing the plugin you may want to download it and install it now. It will likely solve your connection problem. You can get the plugin at:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3607 - Thanks for the quick reply; I have the plug-in but uninstalled it then have just done a reinstall, I'll give it a try tomorrow morning. Question, should I plug in the gps and first see if the plug-in recognizes it before going to Garmin Express or what?
Buck - edited January 2015Garmin Express should not need anything from Garmin Communicator. If installing Garmin Communicator does help, then it is likely the portion that installs the Garmin USB drivers. So I'd just look for some usb driver conflicts instead. I don't think your model nuvi needs any special Garmin usb drivers though, so if you can't see the nuvi through your computers file browser, then Garmin Express definitely won't see it either. And again, that would indicate USB driver conflicts, bad cable, bad usb port, etc.
- I agree GE shouldn't need the Communicator Plugin but it is a place to start in solving this problem.
- Given that the OP has tried this on two PCs I suspect a bad cable is the problem. However try the steps in this FAQ
https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={9b0aa260-3f4b-11e4-eaba-000000000000} - I have ordered a new usb cable from Garmin which should be here tomorrow, (01/16/15) and will give everything another shot. I certainly appreciate everyone's advice/assistance. I will post either late tomorrow or Saturday as to the results.
- I have read some reports that some computers with USB 3 ports are having trouble with Garmin connections. In those cases, going through a hub has helped, although the normal advice is to plug directly into the computer instead of going through a hub. It is something else to try if the cable doesn't solve the problem.
- edited January 2015I think there were also some issues for people that upgraded to 'mavericks' on their macbook. What computer and OS do you use?
As for your issue with Support, that's one of the problems with emailing them. I really prefer to call, then I can immediately dispel any miscommunication and all the preliminary troubleshooting steps I've already done. Saves a ton of back and forth emails. So respond back to the suggested 'fix' and tell them you need some other ideas. - great idea, unfortunately my Garmin usb cable will not be here until either late Mon or Tues so I can not proceed until then; someone got a little slack mailing it, will advise after it comes and I hook everything up

- ok, update, new cable same old problem. Garmin support has suggested several remedies which have been tried to no avail, looks as if they are doing everything possible not to take the unit back under warranty and repair it. Again, computer will recognize the unit but Garmin Express/communicator will not. I am unable to access the internal files as they will not open w/ W.Explorer. I can start the unit and access the settings and hopefully let it suggest a route for a 2000 mile trip next week, we'll see.
- Sorry to hear that. Did you try all the steps in the FAQ I posted? If you have one other trick you might try is to switch your GPS from mtp to mass storage mode. I know that has worked for some in the past.
- Sorry, should have added, to switch to mass storage mode:
1. Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
3. The Developers Screen will pop up
4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
6. Shut down NUVI and connect to PC
7. It should now connect in mass storage mode.
As an alternative to step 1 above, you can bring up the Nuvi's 'dashboard' screen, then press and hold the speedometer for about 10 seconds to access the developer screen. - edited January 2015
I think this is actually called the 'trip computer' screen. :) But does this still work on the new models? It doesn't seem to work on my Nuvi 3550 or Dezl 760, I have to use the volume screen trick instead.you can bring up the Nuvi's 'dashboard' screen, then press and hold the speedometer for about 10 seconds to access the developer screen. - At Garmin's suggestion I tried the mass storage thing with the same negative results=thanks to all who have contributed suggestions; next thing I plan to do is telephone Garmin and tell them to take it back and fix it.
- I guess it depends .. I've always known it as the 'dashboard screen' as 'trip computer' doesn't make sense to me, since it contains speed, times, averages etc . I note my manual calls it the 'trip information' screen so take your pick!
Either way it certainly works on my 2508 .. I've just tried it. - Maybe I need to be clearer, I did access the mass storage mode but my GE still did not recognize my gps,. tried it a couple different times
- Yes, understood that. If you've tried everything in the FAQ then it's time, as you say, to call Garmin.
It works on the 3597 and the 3790. I don't recall ever using the 'volume screen trick'.I think this is actually called the 'trip computer' screen. :) But does this still work on the new models? It doesn't seem to work on my Nuvi 3550 or Dezl 760, I have to use the volume screen trick instead.- Just tried again on the 3550 and timed 20 seconds while holding my finger on the speedometer. Wouldn't work for me..
- Cold hands? ;)
Pressing fairly hard right in the middle of the speedometer readout on the 'trip computer' screen for approximately 5 seconds brings up the Diagnostics Page (what sussamb calls the developer screen in his post) on my 3597. Same process works on the 3790. - I tried in portrait mode…. maybe it only works in landscape? Whatever, no big deal. :)
- I've always used the Nuvi in landscape so that maybe the trick.
- We may be on to something here…. while this FAQ doesn't specifically address the volume screen vs speedometer issue, note the following:
http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={80c3c390-85f1-11df-f376-000000000000}
'To perform a master reset on a nuvi 3400, 3500, or 3700 series device, hold the device horizontally and follow the steps below' - Just tested my 3597 .. pressing the speedometer to get to the Developer menu works in both portrait and landscape .. go figure.
- don't know if this is pertinent, but after the recent 'update' the GPS unit and BaseCamp don't seem to work quite like they used to.
specifically, when select Device from the main menu, then either Send to Device or Receive from Device, the next dialog box comes up blank with 'Devices' - I have to double click on 'Devices' to make it show 'Nuvi 2589' as an option. - just spoke w/ Garmin and they will replace my unit; I'll send it back next week.
Tried this again in relation to another thread here. I was finally able to get it to work, but you have to place your finger 'just right' on the speedometer. Only seemed to work when I pressed at the very top.Just tested my 3597 .. https://energyia638.weebly.com/the-usual-suspectys-download-torrent.html. pressing the speedometer to get to the Developer menu works in both portrait and landscape .. https://energyia638.weebly.com/fifa-15-pc-game-download-torrent-kickass.html. go figure.- Ok, here is an update, after an extended conversation w/ Garmin Support and a very helpful gentleman whose name eludes me, came up with a new theory about why my computer(s) will sometimes recognize my Nuvi but will not allow Garmin Express to recognize it. He stated that I quite possibly have a defective USB cable. A new one is being shipped now and hopefully I will have it Monday and I'll post the results. He also went through some diagnostic procedures of my GPS and those results also indicated a reoccuring cable failure. Interesting, huh?
- Garmin devices in particular can be very fickle about USB. In some cases using a USB cable without a ferrite bead simply won't work.
- Another update; received the new usb cable today and the same old problems existed. Garmin Support even did the computer takeover and still could not get it running on either of my 2 computers. Will mail it back tomorrow for an exchange. Will post when the new one arrives in a couple of weeks.
- Had an almost identical scenario with a clients 2797 even did a factory reset and could not read the second internal disk Windows wanted to reformat it so it must have been corrupted somehow.
Likewise at Garmins (very helpful) request it is being returned.
As far as the volume screen vs the dashboard to invoke the developers screen both work on my two, and the clients 2797 and MTP is Media Transfer Mode not Mass Transfer mode so the default is 'MTP Auto detect', 'Mass Storage' or 'Mass Storage Single Session'.
Mass storage enables both disks to be 'seen' as separated disks if Windows Explorer has hidden files visible.
